Lose Weight or Lose Fat – What Is More Important To You?

Is it more important for you to lose fat or lose weight? What point value do you place on losing weight? The importance varies by person, but the ideal goal should be that of losing fat in order to lose weight that is going to be permanent. Anyone can lose weight using various diet plans, but to achieve something permanent, you have to allow your metabolism to work in order to burn the fat that is causing the excess weight. Losing only weight means you are not losing anything but water weight.

Losing fat cells from your body is what is going to help you maintain weight loss. You achieve this through exercise and a reduction in the amount of calories you consume. Exercise boosts the metabolism, which in turn burns the excess fat allowing you to lose weight. If you don’t reduce the amount of calories you consume, but you increase your level of activity, it’s possible you can still lose weight, depending on how much excess fat you have.

Some people put too much importance on simply losing weight, and then they become frustrated when it fails. If you are losing weight, but not losing fat, all you’re losing is water. This type of weight loss is not permanent; much like having a Swedish wrap is only good for a short time. Not only that, the key to permanent weight loss is a change in your eating and exercising habits.

You must make some changes in your life to prevent you from putting the weight back on, and you have to start with making the effort to lose fat. Once you have embarked on a program for losing fat, you will discover how easily the weight comes off and continues to drop because of the increased speed of your metabolism.

Does that mean it isn’t important to lose weight? No, it doesn’t mean that at all, but losing weight, without losing fat, is not a permanent change. Losing weight may work for getting into that pair of jeans from last winter, but how long is it going to last?

Any weight loss program that is going to help you lose the weight for the long term must be combined with exercise and a change in your lifestyle. Without a combination of all of those elements, your success will be short-lived. The change in lifestyle will ensure that you lose both weight and fat, which is the perfect scenario. Anything less than that will not afford you the results that you are seeking.

Anyone who thinks losing weight is enough has not attempted to lose weight and keep it off. Just losing weight is not going to assure the longevity of the weight loss—that is something only a combination of fat loss and weight loss will accomplish. When one strives for weight loss, one should concentrate on eating healthy foods and exercising in order to lose fat as well as weight. Consider how minor losing weight is in importance compared to losing fat.
