Making Swimming Part of Your Weight Loss Plans

When trying to drop excess pounds, swimming for weight loss is one of the best exercises you can participate in. The resistance of moving through the water allows you to build many areas of your body at the same time without the dread of exercise that accompanies thoughts of going to the gym or running around the block.

Most of us enjoy swimming, and that, in itself, is going to make us want to participate. It allows us to build muscle in arms, legs, abdomen, and buttocks at the same time with the stroking motions, yet without the fear of over-exercising any one mass of muscle as exists with traditional exercises.

Even if you don’t have a pool, there is no reason you cannot incorporate a program of swimming for weight loss into diet plan. You can work on some exercises that use the same motions as swimming or obtain a membership in a facility that has an indoor pool where you can swim all year long.

Not only swimming relaxing, it will also help you with your weight loss program as well by providing you with the exercise you need to burn calories. Keep in mind that weight loss means burning fewer calories than you consume, and swimming is a very effective way of burning off excess calories.

While most people abhor the idea of exercise, they enjoy the idea of going for a swim, especially in the summer. However, to incorporate this exercise in your weight loss program, you must be prepared to follow a regimen all year long no matter what the weather is.

You cannot use the excuse that no pools are open, because alternatives exist. Joining the YMCA or YWCA gives you the best of both worlds with a swimming pool and a traditional exercise room. Many people find that working with weights and other similar equipment, rather then relaxing in the pool, make for a healthy and efficient exercise regimen.

Incorporating swimming into your exercise routine will be a welcome diversion from the exercise in which one usually embarks when dieting. Nothing says exercise has to be grueling and boring, and as everyone will admit, boring exercise is not as effective as one you enjoy.

Your own body’s metabolism will affect how much weight you will lose during swimming exercises. It will also depend upon whether you choose a leisurely or a vigorous pace, but the more vigorous your pace, the more calories you will burn. Any exercise done at a moderate pace is going to yield results of a lesser magnitude than those done at a vigorous pace. Swimming for weight loss is one of the best exercises you can do, and one that you can pace, depending on your energy level. Swimming is a resistance exercise, and as such, will help you work all of the major muscles of your body to assist with weight loss.
